just done a couple of tests, if i take the RAM out it says on then beeps.

Tried different RAM in different slots but it goes off straight away!

I have to take the power cord out then put it back in to power it on..

Tried a different CPU..

No luck :(

Sorry to say that it looks like your motherboard needs replacing.

X300 is not better than the FireGl, and has only 64Mb VRAM vs. 128Mb on FireGl...however, quite a few people find 64Mb VRAM enough for daily use.

Also, T43s have been less affected with motherboard issues than any other T4x series...

[censored]! I wanted to play the odd game though which is why I bought the 41p! The 7500 is good enough for daily use such as office and DVDs but wouldn't want to play games on it.

I don't know what types of games you're intent on playing, but T43 should suffice...

Maybe you need a little house cleaning...sell everything that you don't need, and get a T43/p or a T60...

Or just a new mobo for T41p...

Just my $0.02...

Hmmm not sure what my options could be..

Atm I have a T40 Hybrid:

T41p Screen
Bluetooth
Wireless
768mb RAM
40gb Hdd (5400RPM)
1.73Ghz (2MB L2 Cache) from a VIAO ..
Good condition

T40 with a broken T41p motherboard
It's complete but with lesser specs

I could probably get about £200 for the working T40?

And £50ish for the T40 that's broken..

That's £250 which can't really buy me anything. If I upgraded the motherboard though i'd have a very solid laptop.. I can't find any 'p' motherboards though.

when the RAM is out it's 1-3-3-1 which I presume is the no RAM error.

When there is no RAM in the machine stays on though and doesn't turn straight off. Although there is nothing on the screen, just the power lights etc.

GUYS UPDATE!!!

Right I just hard reset it and plugged it into an external monitor and it worked, it booted to BIOS anyway!

What's that about??

I changed the settings in bios to LCD + VGA (It was on just VGA)

and it stopped working?

Is this because I have the T40LCD in it? (1024x768)

Any help guys!!?

Well the beeps suggested no RAM, as you said. The start with the external monitor sounds like the GPU solder problem I had with the T41p. Try reading 't42 shuts down when I move it:' in this (T4x) forum. It might be that by pressing gently around the GPU you can get a better start up; if that is so, rather than bin it, you could try some of the suggestions for resolving the GPU problem.
