Given your experience, stay with G or switch to 108?

Anyone using 108MBps? (non-IBM cards)

#1 Post by riffin-rich » Sat Dec 04, 2004 7:47 am

Hello all. I'm considering a new T42p with all the bells/whistles. Also considering a matched set (all D-Link Airplus Extreme G, or, all Netgear Double 108) ... router and pcmcia

Does anyone have this configuration? Working?

Thanks much!
Rich

The speeds are not what people think they are.

802.11G is 19 to 21 Mb/s
108/125 etc is 27 to 29 Mb/s

I've read and heard that 802.11g should reach about 22Mb/s (optimal conditions) and "108" ("super G") should be able to reach 40-54Mb/s...
Nevertheless I'll use the GbE-Plug and stay with W-LAN disabled nearly all the time. It's simply the faster, comfortable (if TP-cable is ready) and more reliable option.
Nevertheless I've chosen my T42p with the a/b/g option to have maximum compatibility and the ability to use the "108Mbit" mode if anyone else will offer it.

802.11n when released will have the features of the 108 and 125 etc wireless devices and more. Currently they are all pripritory and only work with the same brand and chipset.
