T42p wlan problem (mini-pci card maybe?)

#1 Post by Patrik28 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 9:49 am

Hi

I have got suddenly a strange problems with my wlan card (in T42p notebook). Now when I try to switch off the wlan card, using FN+F5, nothing happens (Only Bluetooth can be switched off and on). The wlan led will allways be on.
Also the card loses or can't find signal, even if I hold the notebook near the wlan base station. At last week, the wlan connection still worked.

It sounds like the wlan card is broken, or what do you think? The card is original and made by Atheros.

Uninstal the ACC then reinstall it, after that run system update to see if there is a newer version of the driver for your wireless card.

Yes, it helped. I took off the wlan card and uninstalled drivers, put the card back and downloaded the latest drivers.

Thanks for advices!

ps. It was a quite deep dust layer under the palmrest. I wonder if the pcmcia slot cover is really designed to be 4 mm too short from the top edge, because it sucks dust quite effective. My earlier T23's pcmcia shutter covered the whole slot.

It is a good practice to clean the inside of a well used Thinkpad. I just installed a new WiFi card as well and took the opportunity to give it a good going over.
