Downloading Recovery CDs ?
Why doesn't IBM make the recovery CDs / DVDs with the latest drivers updates etc available for Download ?
Do the Recovery CDs get updated ?
Do the Recovery CDs get updated ?
- The Recovery CDs typically contain licensed software (such as WinDVD)
- IBM provides tools to update an installed OS with the latest drivers
- IBM also provides http://www.tpdrivers.com with all the latest drivers/updates available
Recory CDs may be updated when new hardware models are introduced, but only new purchases would be eligible to receive these.

And Windows XP right? Also - it would be one hell of a long download.waterside wrote:- The Recovery CDs typically contain licensed software (such as WinDVD)

What does it take... 7 CD's? Thats a lot of data!
T42P (2373-P1U) | Pentium M 765 - 2.1ghz | 1GB RAM | 60GB 7200rpm HDD | 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD | 128MB ATI FireGL T2 | CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner | IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless(MPCI) | Bluetooth/Modem(CDC)
That is something that I really want. I hate having to install the machine and then do all the dam updates that leave behind so much garbadge.
Why do companies put WinDVD on machines ? I wish it wasn't there as I don't use it. As for the other stuff get rid of it if it has licenseing problems and use better tools.
Having the latest version of the OS with Updates etc available to download would be unreal.

If you don't want it then simply remove it.arion wrote:Why do companies put WinDVD on machines ? I wish it wasn't there as I don't use it. As for the other stuff get rid of it if it has licenseing problems and use better tools.
It is generally included as an additional "value add" for customers. Some people don't use it, some do.
As for "other stuff" that "has licensing problems" I haven't had any issues. I prefer Nero for CD burning, but RecordNow! works just fine.

Having eveyrthing slipstreamed is not. If you rebuild that often that this is an issue then perhaps using partition imaging tools such as Acronis or (the former) PowerQuest DriveImage would fit the bill? Many folks do this and rebuilds are actually faster.
