T42 Motherboard Help

I had a T42 (2373-7WM 14.1 XGA screen) and coffee was spilled on the compter. Result was a dead motherboard. I decided to buy a T42P motherboard to replace the one I had. Purchased model 93P4159. After installing the board tonight the computer lights go on, fan starts but the screen is dead..no life at all. Is this because the T42P is not compatible with the 14.1 XGA screen? What else could it be.

I had the exact same problem on my T42p when I tried to install an extra 512MB DDR-333 SODIMM I had lying around in the bottom slot, you could try removing all memory from both slots and only installing 1 stick in the slot under the keyboard, or if you only have 1 stick, clean the contacts with a good eraser and slot the stick back in the under-keyboard slot. Additionally you could try removing the battery and power plug, leave it for 30 seconds and insert just the power plug, then power it on again.

EDIT: Is the screen totally black? Or is the backlight on but the display is black?

Shine a bright light (like a torchlight) on the LCD and boot the thinkpad, can you see faint images of the boot up sequence on the LCD?

Just tried all the above still nothing. The computer starts, fan goes on but the screen is black. Am wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I put in a t42p motherboard in a thinkpad which previously had a standard t42 board. Maybe the t42p can only work with SXGA screens?

No, it will work with an XGA screen.

Some advice:
try a different stick of ram
wait one minute each time you try.

OK I have tried two ram sticks following the instructions provided. Both of which worked with the previous motherboard. But still my screen is black.

Try pushing down on the area where the GPU (graphics card) chip is and pushing the power button while holding pressure, does it boot?

Mr. Cloud you are a genius. It works by pressing the graphics card. Does this mean my replacement board is stuffed?
