BSOD on fresh reformat/reinstall

#1 Post by off1c3r » Sat Mar 15, 2008 4:29 pm

Hey

I had a problem with my T41. Windows wouldn't load, and neither would safemode. It just hung at a black screen after post. I connected the harddrive externally to my desktop to save files, and then I put the Drive back into the laptop and went through ibms restore process. DId the format, reinstall, etc. First time around I started getting BSODs while just working in windows. The FOrmat had just finished, i was just downloading some files/updates etc. Restarted, bsod, restarted bsod, restarted, then I got into windows. ALl BSODs were the IRQ not less than equal msg.

I just restalled again, and while it was on the last part of the ibm preload, BSOD again. Same message. I have no idea whats going on. I am going to try removing some ram, but I tried that last time (Before I Formated) and that still didn't get me into windows.

I'll take any suggestions as to why its BSODing. Only happens from when you see windows (with ibm preload program doing finishing touches, and on)

Edit: bsod during conversion from fat 32 to ntfs. Restarted, conversion started again and in the middle of the conversion process there was a message (the conversion continued however) saying unrecoverable error in folder /windows/ minidump

edit: mod delete please

After hours and hours, all I had to do was pull the cdrw dvd-rom and bsod's stoped. Unbelievable. =/

Considering the symptoms I'd be tempted to test your ram. As you should be able to leave all components inside.

My 2nd post, originally said that I did memtest for like 4 hours and nothing came up.. jeez what a waste.. I thought it was ram too.. I edited it to saying the problem was solved. I have just never seen this problem before. Pulling the cdrw fixes bsods.. and the thing works fine too!
