Windows Server 2008 on T43

#1 Post by masterus » Sun Mar 16, 2008 7:27 pm

Hello Everyone

Thankx to Kyocera :thumbs-UP: I have installed Windows Server 2003 on my T43 as right now I'm preparing to MCP 70-290.
But sometimes I need some fun or just refresh my brain..so I have installed Windows Server 2008 to figure out if this OS is nice :) ..well here's some compares:
1. start-up time - W2K3 starts in 13sec W2k8 in 65sec
2. user interface - well you can use Vista themes..but XP themes on W2K3 are also nice
3. level of easy work - still work on that but probably W2K3 is much easier..
4. drivers - you can use most of vista drivers but W2K8 after fresh instalation left only 5 Unknows Devices :D
When will have more time probably will post some pics.

For your 070-290, you just need to be familiar with Server 2003. For advanced functionality, I would run Server 2008 as a virtual machine within Server 2003.

You get the best of both worlds, in real time.

If there's only 512MB memory in your T43, you might want to upgrade it to 1.5GB or 2.0GB to boost the performance.

Just my little advice.

I'm running my 2008 box as a Virtual Machine off of my ultrabay slim hard disk drive adapter, but I don't believe mine takes as long as yours to boot. I suppose it matters if you have the 2008 box configured a a DC or not (domain controllers can take a take longer to boot, IME, if they are underpowered).

For those curious, I'm running a Hitachi 7k100 100Gb in the ultra bay slim adapter. The T43 has 2GB of RAM.

Hello,

I have installed W2K8 Standard RTM , have Aero and everything like WMP11 etc.
In my T43 have 1,5GB RAM and 7K60 HDD.
After instalation there're 5 Unknown Devices , but when you turn on Bluetooth you get 5 more.
Still didn't find Infrared Driver :( , you can use most of Vista drivers.
System boots in 60sec. The problem is with Skype, latest version doesn't work but 3.2.0.145 yes.
Had no problem with my Logitech webcam - drivers 11.5.
BTW , forgot to mention that SP1 is installed :) .
System is much faster than Vista!!!
Maybe I post screenshots :D

Regards

UPDATE: Skype doesn't work , old version works but not so good like the latest version: reason Logitech webcam doesn't work :(

UPDATE2: Skype works OK but can't find drivers to Fast Infrared and Supporting Microsoft fuction in Bluetooth.

Wow. I would move from XP pro to Server 2003 anytime for that kind of boot times. Is that for real?

Anyone else seen such reports.

XP Pro (Windows Classic Non XP Look & Feel) has been fine for me so far. But I crave the CLEAN, ROCK SOLID feel of a Win 2000 Pro / Server.

PLUS: Better use of the 4G RAM would help.

Thoughts...

Server 2003 or Server 2008?
