Scroll button won't work with iTunes

#1 Post by ozoneraider » Sun Dec 05, 2004 8:14 pm

iTunes is the only piece of software that won't work with my scroll button. When I have my library displayed, the screen won't scroll up/down with the center scroll button. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, it doesn't work with mine either. Stupid Apple... :wink:

Yup, same here. FWIW, it doesn't work with Picasa either (a nice freeware photo organizer now owned by Google). Gah...

Silly programs with their own user interface systems...

If I hold down the mouse cursor on the itunes scrollbar (without moving anything) it pegs the CPU at 100% and makes my graphics chipset chirp.

It's OK, Apple has never been big on economy of resources, gotta sacrifice something if you want to do it with style, right? :)

I agree that iTunes is pretty hungry for resources, but you should not blame everything on Apple.
TP scrolling does not work with some other applications, including Opera browser,
and it is due to lack of appropriate definitions in Synaptics driver files.

Find following files (I give locations for UltraNav driver 7.5.17.10, but they might be different; use search function with system folders and hidden files included to be sure you find them):
c:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\tp4table.dat
c:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\Media\TP4TABLE.dat
c:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\Media\TP4SCROL.dat

Open them with Notepad and put following line as first just after "Pass 0 rules" header:
*,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9

Your .dat files should look like that after the modification:

...some description here...
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Pass 0 rules (These rules run first)
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

*,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9

; Windows IE3 patch for 2 button systems

...further definitions....

Reboot. Scrolling will work with iTunes.

I am not sure if it is necessary to modify all 3 files, you may try if you have time.
