T40 wireless drops when AC power is connected, disconnected
T40 wireless drops when AC power is connected, disconnected
I've got a ThinkPad T40 from work, with a Cisco internal wireless PCI adapter. It's an awesome machine, but now with one major annoyance: ever since installing SP2 for Windows XP, my wireless connection goes away whenever I connect or disconnect the AC power. My wireless connection is otherwise stable and fast.
Detailed description: when I connect or disconnect AC power, all my open network connections are terminated; the little wireless system tray icon gets a little red "X" on it; then I instantly reconnect (wireless icon has little moving packets depicted) and get excellent signal strength once more.
This is darned annoying and very odd. Has anybody seen this before, and does anybody know how to fix it?

Re: T40 wireless drops when AC power is connected, disconnected
Does anybody have a solution for this problem? I have the exact same problem.
Everytime I plug or unplug the AC power, I loose the wireless connection, I need to do a right-click + repair to restore the connection.
So far, I have tried this but still no luck:
- installed ACPI Power manager
- installed battery power
- set to maximum performance
- device manager, Cisco mini PCI, properties: I was looking for the power saving mode to disable it but this item is not available. The power saving mode seems to be available only for the Wired LAN adapter, not the wireless
- I tried both methods: to let Windows manage the wireless connection and installed the Cisco Access Connection Manager. Both behave the same way
I am running XP pro SP3, fresh install

Somewhere in the options of the wifi card, you can UNtick something that looks like: "Allow this device to be switched off to conserve energy/power"

I already looked for that, not available. There is nowhere to be found that option for the power saver mode.RealBlackStuff wrote:Somewhere in the options of the wifi card, you can UNtick something that looks like: "Allow this device to be switched off to conserve energy/power"
I can see that option for the wired ethernet card, but not for the wireless.
I noticed that when I plug/unplug the power adapter, the card points to the following IP address: 169.154...
When it is working, it has the correct IP address 192.168.0.108 (to a router)
then suddenly right after I plug/unplug AC power, it switches to 169.154.... and I need to do a 'repair' on the connection to fix it.

Try running Access Connections

Pay particular attention to the "Software and Device Driver requirements"

I spent several hours trying this, still no luck.
I am going to reformat the machine, perform a clean install of Windows XP and re-install the Access Connection and the device drivers in the order that was given from the instructions
