Laptop Insurance

#1 Post by Highline » Mon Dec 06, 2004 1:45 am

As I just spent around $4000  for my new T42p and its accessories... I am thinking about getting some sort of insurance to cover any damages to it or things of the like. Does anyone know of a company that offers any type of computer insurance?

Thanks in advance,

Brad

I used to work for an insurance company in Canada. There were lots of riders that you could put on your homeowners/renters policy, so check there first. Many companies will insure just about anything these days - all depends on the risk level as assessed by the underwriters.

within the first 30 days from the original invoice date you can place thinkpad protection on any USA located thinkpad..
cost is $169~
well worth the expense if you travel a lot with it..

Yes, the ThinkPad protection is great in that it covers anything (almost) that is DONE to the machine, like spills, drops, etc. However, it won't cover theft.

I added a rider to my renter's insurance for $60/year to cover theft of the laptop anywhere, with a $100 deductible.

If you pay with an AMEX you get automatic purchase protection (I think up to sixty (60) days) and it duplicates the manufacurers warranty.

Both benefits I've used and can tell you are worth every of AMEX annual fee.

I have my two kids' thinkpads insured under a separate policy with State Farm - $61 per year for both. All perils.

Well I did it!!

After reviewing Safeware's BBB rating I went ahead and paid $228 for a years worth of coverage. $3800 of coverage, no deductable!

I think it is a good investment... in a big investment :)
