Getting a handle on 14" to 15" differences

My brother in law is interested in getting a T42 but he's indecisive between the 14" and 15" version. Now that I have a 15" T42 with the sxga+ display and have read that there isn't really a difference in readability between the two sizes with that resolution I have a couple of other questions for him.
14-15 inches and 1 lb. difference in weight doesn't sound like a big deal but is it? He's not a road warrior, he'd only be taking it from room to room in his house and to Borders and on vacation bi annually. Too bad he can't see my 15" T42 but he's in a different state.
If anyone who has had or has both can chime in with your opinions I'll let him know. He's most interested in knowing the sacrifice of the 14" display over the 15", does it have the feeling of being much smaller or does the difference in size seem minor?
