using SATA drive on T43p

#1 Post by sergi0 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 9:59 am

hi folks,

I am the proud owner of a t43p. I exchange it with my x60s, the screen resolution was not workable for me. I needed more space.

But, I really miss the SATA drive on the t43p. Is it possible to use the t60p ultrabay on the t43p and thus use a SATA drive? I have difficulties finding infos about it on the web. At first I thought it was not possible, but after searching, I did not find any infos about it...

Sergio:

It is possible to modify a T60-SATA-Ultrabay for use in a T43(/p), and use a SATA-drive in the Ultrabay (yes, in the T43!); this is discussed in the thread FS: Mint T43p 2668-H1U 15" UXGA - see the post of Sat Aug 11, 2007, the part: "About usable Ultrabay-storage in T43’s".

Best regards,

Johan

I thought the bottleneck was still the drive transfer rate, not the PATA/SATA bus speed? Maybe your previous computer was just generally faster than the T43?

for a daily use I see no difference using a t43p and a x60s. I have some games installed, but I also notice no big difference as they are old (fps from 2001-2002). the main problem was really the screen size. I could have get a t60p instead of the t43p, but I prefer the IBM era. the new t60/61 have minor details that do not please me. plus, they ware a little pricer compare to the t43p.
