Beloved T41p will not charge battery after system update

#1 Post by hermandr » Sun Mar 30, 2008 5:03 am

Hi!
I love T41p, it has been a workhorse for me.
After 4 years it still looks good!

After the thinkvantage System Update my battery refused to charge.
It is totally depleted now.
The Batt maximizer is showing the power plug when it is plugged in.
The laptop is powered when the ac adapter is plugged in.

Has any one encountered the same problem before?

Herman

Welcome to the forum Herman!

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I have not seen this before. Is the battery indicator lit? What color is it and is it steady or flashing?

Herman:

I suggest you try "take one step back"; simply (in Win XP) open Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools and run the "System Restore". There, restore your T41p to a restore point that was created before you made the ThinkVantage System Update. Remember to backup all important user data before doing this.

The above approach has saved me quite a few times after catastrophical ThinkVantage System Updates. Also, I sleep better at night because I have an Acronis True Image backup (complete image) of my HDD created when everything had been set up perfectly. I may simply restore my entire HDD to this image if some update (or a virus) messes up everything to the extent that it cannot be fixed otherwise.

Best regards,

Johan

What will happy if you unplug the AC? Maybe the battery is actually working...

The battery should also charge when you're not in Windows. Try to interrupt the bootup (enter BIOS maybe) and see if it charges (maybr leave it like that for an hour or so).
