T41 cannot complete factory restore :(

#1 Post by x420actionx » Fri Apr 04, 2008 1:08 am

Hello Fellow Thinkpadders!

This is my first official post at this forum; hopefully someone can assist me with the dilemma that my Thinkpad is going through.

Okay, well here is the situation in short. About a week ago, I reformatted my T41 2373-XSX back to factory specs without a hitch. But as of a few days ago, when I decided to reformat it again due to some other unrelated issues I wasn't able to get into the predesktop area.

Frustrated, I surmised that the solution for this would be for me to perform a reinstall/install of rescue & recovery v.3, which actually kind of worked as I was then able to enter the predesktop area. But when I selected restore to factory while in the predesktop area, the process did not start after the required reboot; it simply continued to load windows. I did this multiple times, and each time it proceeded to load windows, and not the factory restore screen. I also tried to do this again with rescue & recovery v.4, but it was still the same result.

I think my hidden partition might have an issue thats preventing the system from continuing with the recovery process. I feel that I'm pretty close to purchasing the recovery CD's as a last resort. Any advice or solution to this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

Usually restoring from the service partition does not change the service partition. From your description there does appear to be a problem with this hidden partition. Has your hard drive been working normally?

Recovery CD's could restore the factory preload which would include this hidden service partition.

Hi thank you for your reply...I don't think my hard drive was having any issues before and at present...
