ATI2DVAG BSOD Fixed (was "Need Old ATI Drivers")
ATI2DVAG BSOD Fixed (was "Need Old ATI Drivers")
My friend is getting the BSOD and error message ATI2DVAG error. We uninstalled his ATI driver package and reinstalled the Lenovo drivers from the website (dated 2007).
His machine is still locking up and I would like to load older drivers however I am unable to find them... anyone have a link to pre-2007 video drivers??
See 12th post below for the Fix

Try see the thread Catalyst5.10 driver for ATI mobility radeon 7500 (Powerplay) - the posts by troubadix and the drivers made/modified by him (see the list of supported GPU's in the post of Sun Sep 03, 2006 3:52 pm), maybe they are usable?
I also experienced the BSOD/ATI2DVAG error (on aT42p w/FireGL T2) after updating via the ThinkVantage System Update recently, but I managed to roll back to a Win XP "System Restore Point" which I had created just prior to updating the ATI drivers... and that saved me! Thanks, Lenovo, for releasing such untested drivers.

Searched c:\drivers\ for a folder with the originals yet? Search all *.xml files under that path for text within "ATI" (without quotes) and you may find them.

Thanks for the helpful tips...additional information; his T42 works fine with the vanilla VGA driver although it only works in native resolution. He has had zero crashes for the past 24 hours using this driver.
But I had a thought; I have a T41 with older drivers, can I simply copy over my "c:\drivers\win\display\folder" to his machine and then run "setup.exe" from MSCOFIG?
The ATI drivers have already been removed from his machine.
Thanks!

I use that newest Lenovo/ATI driver on everything from A30 to T42 without any problems.

More new information...when I tried to install my old drivers on his machine, I got an error message from the ATI Installer telling me that I needed to update the driver to "standard VGA compatible".
Sure enough when I checked the driver, there wasn't any description or date and the yellow checkmark was showing on the adapter.
Anyone know where I can find a "standard VGA compatible" driver that I can load on his machine so I can complete the ATI install??

Just delete that device driver from System Properties and reboot.

I should have added that to my comments, we did that and no change in the status.sjthinkpader wrote:Just delete that device driver from System Properties and reboot.
Is there a place to download a standard VGA driver for Windows?
I may try Omega drivers but I saw some comments in another thread where someone had problems...
I would love to find some old ATI drivers...I find it very odd that Lenovo wouldn't keep an archive of old drivers available for occasions like this...
Anyone know where older drivers may be archived? Maybe we should start an archive here??

The earliest ATI driver I have is 1RD631WW from 4/05. Try Googling this as someone had posted it for download.
If you cannot delete the ATI driver, I think you have other problems in the OS. Remove the HDD and have it scanned by a standalone virus checker.
You can try booting in Safe Mode then delete the driver.

This link (IBM's FTP site) is SUPPOSED to have a LOT of old drivers per this list of files (allfiles.txt), however when I click on the MOBILES directory I see nothings listed for files. Is the FTP site messed up (missing files)? We should be able to find all kinds of OLD files on their FTP site per the recently updated allfiles.txt!

PROBLEM FIXED!! Found this solution and my friends T42 has been working perfectly for more than 24 hours while using the previously very troublesome but latest (09/2007) ATI drivers from Lenovo website.
Before this he would have at least 5 or 6 reboots within a couple of hours using the same ATI drivers.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful ideas...still find it strange that old drivers aren't more easily found considering how many problems result from driver upgrades.
