Ideal Temperature?

#1 Post by Scuzzzed » Wed Dec 08, 2004 2:33 am

I've noticed by laptop getting kind of hot, and i just installed Speed Fan so i can monitor the temp.

I know this may be hard, since it really depends on what programs are being run, but what is a "normal" temperature range, and what’s excessive.

Input, highly appreciated

:)

I am using MobileMeter to read temps.
Idle temp = 38 Celsius (Adaptive CPU, ATI Powerplay ON)
Idle temp = 45 Celsius (High Performance, ATI Powerplay OFF)
Peak temp = 60 Celsius (Prime95 In-Place Large FFT, High Performance, ATI Powerplay Off)

Hope this helps.

I also have a 2378-FVU, and I was playing a game just now (Battlefield 1942) and I noticed my CPU cooking at 72C. Is that normal for a 1.7 Penium M?

My Powerplay is enabled, but it's not active... the Powerplay settings box says something like "Powerplay is currently INACTIVE" and "Graphic is runnig high performance because powerplay is disabled or the computer is plugged in"

so...can you get Powerplay active with the computer pluged?

Did you measure the temperature with the laptop plugged?

What function do the powerplay do, overclock the graphics card?

No, actually it underclocks it. Typically Powerplay is activated on battery power. Underclocking the graphics card conserves battery power.
