How much is a T41/42p worth these days?
How much is a T41/42p worth these days?
Question i'm asking is because i'm thinking of getting something a bit newer like a Dell Vostro for the odd bit of gaming.
I love the reliability and look of this laptop and look after it well. Apart from the funny keyboard i'm the build is excellent.
So what do you guys think?
It's a 1.7Ghz Dothan btw with 768mb ram, it will come will the dock and bigger battery too.
thanks,

I think your estimate is a bit high. Check on e-bay. T40 series prices have been dropping rapidly in the last couple of months. Nicely equipped T43 models, some still under warranty, are going for around $400, some lower.
I bought a fully functional T41 with SXGA+ for $270. I bought it for parts! Its sad but true - if you need an SXGA+ screen and a few extra parts, it is cheaper to buy a complete machine and strip it.

Really, Why?aaa wrote:Whether it's a T41 or a T42p matters alot... the T41 would only get around 350-400.
What is the main difference? When I bought My T41 in '06 I was told the T42s came with the 15 inch screens and better stock options like more RAM, DVD Burners and bigger HD (all things you can easily upgrade on a T41.
That said a T41, like mine, with SXGA 14.1, 100GB 72K, 2 GB RAM, 16K DVD Burner, 9 Cell Battery has to be worth more than a T42 with lesser specs from the same year.
Now to answer this bloke's question. eBay is the best indicator of supply, demand and actual re-market cost for everything from BMWs to Grand Ma's Sothebys Antique China.
On eBay you can buy/sell any of these T41-T43 from $300 to $1000 depending on wear/tear condition and specs alone. Also the biggest price boost seem to be what video ram you got under the hood. Most IBMs are not made for gamers so the Vid Ram was always low with the rare 128 MB super T4x's among them. So if you have a 128MB vid ram you can get well over $500 for it on that spec alone.

Hey you are from Sheffield! Cheers Mate! Sheff United or Sheff Wednesday?amdaman wrote:I thought that's why the 'p' was important? Mine is a 42p motherboard with the 128mb vram.
If I could get around £300 i'd be quite pleased as I could buy a more up to day laptop for little more.
I'd definately miss the build quality of this laptop though (bar that flappy arrow key ha ha)
If you got 128MB of Video Ram under the bonnet and everything else is in order you should get 400 to 500 quid for it.
