flickering external monitor at power-on password

Guys,
I run my X40 using the docking station and a Philips external LCD monitor, however when I boot it up I get a flickering screen at the power-on password. It shows the Bios screen OK and as soon as I type the password I can see a normal screen - anyone got any ideas.

Bios up to date etc....
