Updating SD drivers to SDHC hangs computer

I've been trying to update my X40 to allow it to read SDHC cards under XP. I've tried the 3 or so hotfixes from Microsoft (923293, 934428, 946629), but all three cause my PC to hang. Cannot move the mouse, cannot CTRL-ALT-DEL, the only recourse is the power button. Anyone got any suggestions.

Currently I have had to resort back to the standard Lenovo SD package which doesn't seem to support SDHC.
