T40 doesn't power up

#1 Post by diaz1023 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 1:47 am

I have a T40, 237394u, that does not want to power up anymore. I have uninstalled ram, hdd, cd drive and and cleaned the inside of dust and other minor debris, but it still does not want to power up. when connected to the power adaptor, no indicators light up saying that it is charging or ready to use. Is there any other advice on how to repair it, it was working find three days ago and all of a sudden nothing. TIA

Sadly it sounds like the motherboard is dead.

would you think a replacement would be reasonable? or feasible? This has been a good machine and seems like it still might have some good life left, but about how much would it be to repair? just want to get an idea so i could let my sister know, she is the main user.TIA

If you are very capable with electronics, you can buy a motherboard on e-bay and replace it yourself. Alternatively, you can check with JamiePhar on this forum who repairs thinkpads and may be able to help you. I'm guessing about $200 to supply and replace a motherboard, maybe a little more.

would it be a possibility that the cmos battery is dead and that is what is causing it to not function?
