Error 2010 with my T43 and an upgrade to a hitachi 160gb hdd
Error 2010 with my T43 and an upgrade to a hitachi 160gb hdd
I get that message whenever I turn the computer on. I push esc to continue but i noticed that the computer is running slower than before. I read through the forums that point to some link to the lenovo website but the links come up dead. What should I do to fix this problem?
The model # of the hitachi hard drive is HTS541616J9AT00
T43 1875N1U

Search some more – many, many posts on this on this forum, including a few from me.
In summary, the only way to get rid of the error is either buy a drive from Lenovo for a lot of money, or find one of the drives on the list in their HDD firmware update program, hack the code so the program thinks your drive is a IBM OEM and not a generic or some other brand, and then flash new firmware into the drive.
The only drives the program supports are those ever offered by IBM/Lenovo for the T40 series, and that list only goes up to 100 GB drives. Many can not be flashed, as there is no way to hack the SW to think they are IBM part numbers. The ssuccessful candidates seem to be Fujitsu, many of which do not require any update, and HGST. One of the highest performance models which members seem to have success with is the 100 GB 7200 RPM HGST model HTS721010GAT00. I have flashed several of these myself with success using the procedure in this link:

There is another road you may or may not want to take: downgrading the BIOS. In the sticky about the 2010 errors there's a link that I've used several times in the past, hopefully it still works.
Good luck.
Good luck.

As ajkula66 said, downgrade TP BIOS; this may work, ver. 1.03dporsche wrote:I read through the forums that point to some link to the lenovo website but the links come up dead. What should I do to fix this problem?

Downgrading the BIOS does not “fix” the problem. It only does not report a problem that prevents one of the protection mechanisms of the Active Protection System from operating. Note that the BIOS upgrades probably fix other problems as well.
You basically have three choices here:
1. Buy a drive with the correct FW from Lenovo. A pricey way to go.
2. Pick a drive that is supported by the Lenovo HDD FW upgrade program AND CAN BE FLASHED, and flash it.
3. Ignore the error every time you boot. As stated above, some of the protection offered by APS will not operate.
