system board removal -- the last step?

#1 Post by mjtrac » Mon Apr 14, 2008 8:26 pm

Hi,

I'm not the world's handiest person.

Nonetheless, I've managed to follow the hardware maintenance manual to completely disassemble a T40. My goal is to send the system board to get it reflowed (reflown?). But I can't seem to detach the system board from the bottom housing -- it remains attached by the two posts holding the parallel connector, and those posts are too tight a fit against the plastic to use a needlenose pliers.

The hardware maintenance manual, not realizing people like me would be trying to disassemble the things, doesn't comment on this.

Any ideas gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

Mitch

They have to come out, You need a thin walled socket to get them out.

Don't take them out. You just have more junk to put back. They come out fine with the back panel attached. Make sure the 2 round-head screws on the right side of the back panel are out. (by the latch for the optical drive) Also, there is a flat head screw on the left edge, right next to the USB ports that is easy to miss. Also, a 10MM screw up from the bottom into the audio jack area. Tip the VGA port (right side) up and rock it out.

Richk, you are right. Those screws do not have to come out to remove the board but they do have to come out to take the I/O plate off of the board after it is out of the base.
Thanks for the correction.
