DDR2 PC 5300 memory sticks 667

#1 Post by fkelly » Fri Apr 18, 2008 4:56 pm

Can this memory be used in the T4x series lappies?

I stumbled across 2x 1 gig sticks and it got me to wondering.....

Thanks in advance.

(I'm thinking this is for the newer tps)

It won't fit physically and also you need DDR, not DDR2.

I have checked and I'm thinking this will work for the x6 series.

If so I may hold onto it, if not, guess I got to useless sticks laying around.

It will work assuming it is laptop memory. PC5300 DDR2 comes in desktop and laptop sizes,

T43 uses PC2-4200 and many PC2-5300 will work in them. T40-T42 uses PC2100/PC2700 so PC2-5300 will not work but some PC3200 may work.

It will work in T43/p and any newer machine, including X6x/T6x/Z6x/R6x.

t43's will take 2x 1GB speed is irrelevant.

Not true. They will not take DDR sticks, only DDR2 with PC4200 or above. You can't even fit DDR sticks in a T43 since they have a different pin arrangement.

Having said that, anything older than T43 (T40/1/2/p) will not take DDR2 memory.

srry had aheadache in the morning, i was implying DDR2

just for the record i tried a t43 with a 2gb and 1gb ddr2 stick and it wouldnt boot (i know the chipset limitation of the 915GM is 2GB but I wanted to try anyway).

Having 3GB installed should not prevent booting. I have tried many configurations including 2 X 2gb and the ThinkPad still booted. Of course the OS will only recognize 2gb max.

Oh well the mystery is over. The dude I picked them up from offered to take them back.

Thanks for all the input
