Knock on wood - No more dead Ultranav pixels!!

Although silly me, I made two changes and don't know which did it.

First of all, something I should have done from the start: Set the middle ultranav button to "neither" scrolling or magnification. I didn't know that "neither" meant regular middle mouse button until I went into IBM's ultranav wizard. Silly me

Second, I updated the ultranav driver to the latest generic Synaptics drivers. The driver version is 7.12.7.0 and it doesn't seem to conflict or replace any of the IBM-specific elements in the software.

After 3-4 days, still no stuck white pixels. Fingers remain crossed!

I've been using the most recent IBM drivers, and haven't had a dead pixel for a few months now... but best of luck to you anyway.

They're not really dead pixels or anything. I don't get them very often, but they appear sometimes.

I hit the middle button and they go away. They're just strange little artifacts or something.

They're not going to hurt anything!

I know, I've been helping new owners fix this for over 5 months now. But "dead pixel" is the most convenient way to describe them and have everyone know what you're talking about.. How about "reluctant pixels?"

Here's my config:

UltraNav driver 7.5.17.10
Not installed: UltraNav Wizard, TrackPoint and UltraNav Accessibility Features

I never saw any soft-dead pixel. Maybe it's the wizard or accessibility features causing issue?

I would have preferred non-proprietary synaptics driver over IBM one, but the trackpoint acceleration on the synaptics driver is sooooooo slow.

I don't think it matters much what else you run. I have an MS Mouse, and when I'm using that, the touchpad is still active and its drivers don't go anywhere; I assume that's the same regardless of what additional pointing devices you use.
