Question about the warranty of my laptop

#1 Post by gustafson » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:38 pm

Hi guys,

I purchased my T43p laptop at the beginning of the 2006 with a three years warranty. Today, I want to extend the warranty for another three years.

I called the lenovo couple minutes ago, and had been told that I can't upgrade my warranty anymore because it was the maximium warranty. I have to purchase a new warranty with almost two hundred dollars.

Is this ture? I check on the website, it seems it cost just about 20bucks.

thanks in advance.

If your have not previously upgraded the standard three-year ThinkPad warranty that I understand your T43 came with (being the EZServ depot repair), then you can extend the warranty for two more years - as e.g. discussed in the thread Warranty extension. To extend your existing (?) EZServ depot warranty for two additional years (and keeping it as EZServ depot repair, and not upgrading it to e.g. on-site repair), you will need to order the so-called "5-year EZServ extended warranty" (P/N 41C9180), which will cover five years from the shipment day of your T43 (= two additional years, compared to the standard warranty).

I really don't believe you could buy any (any!) additional, original IBM/Lenovo warranty for as little as $20. Perhaps the warranty you refer to here (the "$20 extension") is provided by some third-party company, such as Square Trade or MACK Camera... and both these companies have a somewhat mixed reputation (in this forum), so I would personally not hesitate ordering the 41C9180 for $150 (see the post by Tim M of Tue Jan 29, 2008 5:38 pm in the above-mentioned thread about how to get the 41C9180 cheapest possible).

A great deal of additional information about warranty (and warranty extension options) can easily be found on this forum by simply Searching the archives.

PS: Please links in your posts, when you make reference to relevant information, such as e.g. the source of the $20 claim: "I check on the website, it seems it cost just about 20bucks."

Thank you so much, Johan. After I review your previous post, I think I should just go with Part#: 41C9180.

And this website has it for $152:

I am really happy with EZServ depot warranty! Let's wait and see whether the order would go through or not.
