Just bought my first IBM laptop (computer ever) tonight, and getting quite nervous reading through here about the screens. Are they bright and uniformly lit? Is there any ghosting problems on the non flexview screens?

I think you'll be impressed anyway, as TP's are great notebooks.

As for the screen, I have a 14.1 SXGA+ and I like it a lot. I don't notice any ghosting or anything bad about mine.

The screen is plenty bright, and looks great. Mine is very sharp and clear.

I don't know about the XGA, and I think for my tastes, I wouldn't like it, but many people do. I have great eyesight, so that definitely adds to my like higher res. screens.

Overall, I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

i just bought the 15" xga...and i love it. These thinkpads are very well built and you can definitely tell the difference between these laptops and other brands. I personally love the larger resolution since my eyesight isnt as sharp as that of some of you young pups. I have my wifi going as i bought a router today and i am in "tall cotton" right now. Enjoy your new laptop kid.

I've read some distaste for the xga 14" screens. I'm happy to report mine looks pretty good. I had an sxga for a couple weeks and it looked great. I couldn't use it though. Way to small print on that size screen. It was brighter and sharper to some degree and a bit richer perhaps but until someone makes a truly scalable operating system that is resolution independant I think this the T42 xga is as good as it gets for blind guys like me .

I have a T40 XGA screen. I got it because I bought it for college, and that's all I could afford at that point. I have used a T42p with SXGA+ and I like it better than my XGA. My eyesight is not bad: 20/30, but it is slowly worsening...geez I'm only 19 :(. Oh well, it runs in the family. But I must say that I like the XGA. Bright, evenly lit, very nice. Enjoy it.

I have same model as Plinkerton's. 2378fvu SXGA+.
I have not problems at all with the screen. It's beautiful.
My coworker bought one after he saw mine and another coworker is planning to buy the same one. I think Thinkpads must be infectious. Everyone were commenting on the keyboard how it is the best keyboard after I let them type on mine. I couldn't agree more.

What about the roaming pixel problem with the driver issue?
