T42 left steel hinge broken

my 3+ yr old T42's left steel hinge suddenly broke while my wife was opening the lid this morning. is this broken part replaceable? what would be the price for this hinge? thanks.[/img][/url]

Wow. The exact same thing happened to my three year-old T42 last night. I opened it and the left hinge broke in two. I believe the part # is 91P8388. It costs $24 plus about $13 for shipping from Lenovo.

is this an issue with T42s? i just bought last week a T61 14.1W to replace it but i still come back to T42 because of the 14.1 SXGA+ screen.

Ridiculous. Ask around in the Marketplace here. Replacing the hinge is not the easiest thing you ever did - lots of screws - but is not particulrly difficult either. I did this on a transport-damaged T40 without any particular problem.
