So people don't burn cds as much anymore since the invention and with ipods. And neither have I. But on my T43 my cd-rw won't burn discs.
I tried burning in windows medial player, record now and itunes so I know it is not the software. Each time I put in the cd it says it is full or something is wrong. This has been happening for awhile. I just didn't burn cds or burned them on my desktop
Last year I dropped my laptop and messed up the screen. Sent it in to be fixed and asked Lenovo to check/change the cd-RW drive. while they were at it. And they did.
I think I may have burned one cd when it came back or just assumed because it was a new one drive it would work whenever I found the need to burn again.. And now again the same problem it won't read the CD-Rs. I plug the same cds into my desktop computer and it works fine.
Again I don't know what the problem since the drive was changed but the same problem.
Is it lack of usage? Of course I have tried different CD-Rs
Someone has to have the same problem.
*Note I have never tried using a CD-RW (only use USBs) so I would never know if it is just a burning problem.

Eject the drive from the bay and reseat it.
Run Pc Doctor diags on the drive and see what it says.
Check the firmware level of the drive and update it if necessary.
Try a different brand of quality media.
If all the above fails to correct the problem, Lenovo can send you just the DVD CDRW drive if you are still in warranty since it is a CRU.

So I ran PC doc. And it went through the linear test and every other test except the CD-RW Test.
Actually as soon as I put in the CD-RW the
the box that says
CD-RW Diagnostic Test Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Then it went on to ask for the DVD test etc and everything was fine. So it does not work. I am not sure why?
Where would the firmware update be? I have done the system update. I guess this is when I call Lenovo and use my warranty?
Just wondering why this would happen twice.

Looks like the drive is bad.
The firmware update can be downloaded but you will need another machine to burn the bootable cd. It will automatically check your drive and update it if necessary.
The file you need is "CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, CD-RW/DVD drive firmware update utility (Bootable CD ISO)" - ThinkPad General
Maybe it is possible your drive was not changed during the warranty repair of the LCD. If you still have the paperwork that came back from repair, it will tell you.
In any case, 1 phone call and you will have your new drive in 1 day.
