Looking for a Part for T41p

#1 Post by MurrayShafiroff » Fri May 02, 2008 6:22 am

I am trying to find a part for a T41p. Not sure how to describe it.
Within the LCD cover (shows when laptop is closed) there is an oval clear Plate that shows the Hybination, Battery and Bluetooth LED's.
The clear plate stick on sits on a clear plastic insert within the cover that the stickon attaches to. I'm looking for this clear plastic insert. I have to replace the cover (purchased a new one, and ghave a new clear plate). Need the insert to attach the clear plate to.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First: Welcome to the forum!

In principle, you may find all parts in your ThinkPad described in the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p and all the service parts can be found online at System service parts - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p. If you here select the 14.1inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p and search for "clear" you find the item # 10: "Clear Plate" which for T41(/p)'s has FRU (Field Replaceble Number) 13N5666. The cheapest place to get them is via eBay - see e.g. IBM ThinkPad T41P Bluetooth Indicator Light Clear Plate. There may be cheaper sellers (on eBay or elsewhere)... search for yourself!

If the above is not what you want/need, you may simply grab an entirtely new IBM Thinkpad T40-T43 14” LCD LID & BEZEL 13R2569 NEW! - if you are lucky (= the only bidder!), this it is very, very cheap! I would truly believe that all parts were contained in that kit.

Johan,
Thanks for the quick reply. I did in fact purchase a 13N5666 and it only includes the stick ons. There is another part 13R2449, LCD miscellaneous parts (14.1-in. LCD, that contains a LED lens, but I'm not sure that's the correct part. I would prefer to not have to purchase the entire kit for the one small plastic insert.

Your idea of purchasing a T4x on ebay (or just a broken screen and LCD cover and bezel), is a good one. Still, $20 or $30 dollars for a 20cent part really hurts.

Anyway, if you here of anyone who might have one of these, I'd appreciate if you could let me know.

Thanks again
Murray

You're very welcome, Murray - and please accept my apology for not really answering to what you asked (truth is that I have never taken a LCD apart, so I have therefore never seen the lens, you need). And, of course, I entirely agree that it would be a wild vaste of money to throw out $20 for a 20-cent part!

Anyway, I just wanted to add that you may (perhaps...) have better luck - if no better luck shows up here :-) by posting a "WTB" (Want To Buy) in the Marketplace of this forum.

PM me your mailing address and I'll send you one, no charge. It's a clear plastic piece that snaps into place and uses double sided tape to secure. I believe it's more or less a sub-part, for lack of a more accurate term, that probably always comes with an LCD cover.

It actually has a part number on it (IBM has part numbers for everything, including labels that are just printed with part numbers for other things!) The part number is 62P4195, but I doubt it's available without the LCD cover.

P.S. Welcome to the forum!
