I believe if you go to IBM's website, you can get the exact weight of the 6-Cell and the 9-Cell batteries to get the exact difference.
As to the graphics, that's EXACTLY what I want to know. Will the X300 be enough better than the M9600 to be worth the loss of nearly a half hour of battery life??
http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?lo ... =88&var2=0
This link details the differences in specs, and the X300 looks to be a higher clocked M9600 on paper. However, I'd like to see some real-world benchmarks to determine if there is any noticeable difference in real-life. Most of the benchmarks out now are on the X800/X700/X600.

excuse me but you were at least the 20th who asks the question - that was the cause I made my state - I had the opinion that someone who can write a post is also able to read the thread before writing a question (btw. the pdf was only one example of 10 links or more - there are also links like this:danny_isr wrote: "tribal-sunrise" <---- and some humans are really rude !

there you can see the same informations about the existing x300 models without a pdf reader ...)

Just a minor quibble, but it's Lenovo, not "Lenova."
The deal won't be finalized until April or May, and I'm sure the ThinkPad designers aren't simply twiddling their thumbs waiting for IBM and Lenovo to sort out the details. There are probably designs in the works that will reflect IBM specific work.
Even after the merger this may hold true if the design team people stay on board.

Folks, ehd wrote:flame war wheee, anyways the radeon 9600 is compatible but it was made for direct x 8.1 i believe... so like it doesnt have like all of directx 9's goodies.. it just runs it.
Both the desktop Radeon 9600 and MR9600/FireGL T2 in ThinkPads are Direct X 9.0 parts, made to support Direct X 9.0a features like PixelShader 2.0, full floating point precision rendering, etc. Subsequent additions to the DX9.0c include PixelShader 2.1, and a few other enhancements. But don't be fooled: the MR9600 is both Direct X 9.0 compliant and compatible, meaning it has all the necessary hardware to support DX9. The older MR9000/MR9200/MR7500 and FireGL 9000 are Direct X 8.1, with no support for PixelShader 2.0/VertexShader 2.0.
Here's Tom's Hardware's article on MR9600 with links to DirectX9 articles as well... http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/2003 ... ia-01.html
Daniel.
Features of the MR9600:
DirectX9
Chip clock 300 MHz (MR9600 per 350 MHz)
Max. memory clock 300 MHz (MR9600 per GDDR-2M with 350 MHz max)
Theoretical pixel fillrate 1400 MPixel/s
Memory bandwidth 9600 MB/s
4 pixel pipelines (each with 3 pixel shader operations per clock signal, or a total of 12 pixel shader operations per clock signal)
2 vertex shader units
0.13-micron fabrication process
PixelShader 2.0 support, full floating point precision
VertexShader 2.0 support
6 FSAA (MultiSampling with gamma correction)
16x anisotropic filtering
HyperZ III (8:1 Z-compression)
Powerplay4 with Power-On-Demand:
Power management for the chip, which can be manually controlled by the user, or which can be defined according to the performance requirements of the application running.
Overdrive: automatic, dynamic "overclocking" of the chip (on-the-fly)
HDTV-Out
Support for Wide Aspect LCDs

Just FYI:
Since someone mentioned Lenovo, I will also add that IBM employees who were in PCD cannot look for other assignments or jobs at IBM for a period of two years from the time the deal is finalized (actually, they can't come back as of now for two years, technically speaking, but it will be 24 months from the time the sale is finalized in April).

hundesau,
Maybe I'm wrong, but I read Conmee's message as meaning that people who were part of the Personal Computing Division are not allowed to get re-assigned from that division to another part of IBM for two years.
My guess would be that this would keep everyone from jumping ship. After all, IBM did say that the employees were part of the deal, too. They, of course, have the option to quite *entirely*, but then that would jeopardize their chances of getting a position elsewhere within IBM in the future (they'd have to be re-hired), so there is an incentive to suck it up and stick around to work for Lenovo for 2 years.

There was an interesting article in CRM (Computer Reseller Mag) that implies that a number of IBM R&D people may get lucrative offers from HP or Dell and this may be what undermines the IBM Lenovo deal. Without the same R&D effort, the Thinkpad line will lose it's lustre.Conmee wrote:Just FYI:

anyone here NOT really all that excited about the T43? upon looking at specs, while it does look impressive, i can still upgrade a lot on my T42 which would make it pretty [censored] close to the performance of the T43s, i can still upgrade my processor to the highest PM765 when the price comes down enough, i can expand mem to 2GB if i wanted to, i just dont seem to have the excitement for it
T42 Owner (2374-3VU)
I was excited...until I heard about the battery life taking a dive because of the Sonoma PCI-E Bus. IBM's quoted times (tabook) on the "p" models are down about 0.6-0.7 hours from the T42ps (from 5.9 to 5.2 on the 14.1" models). Now, is the additional performance worth the drop in battery life? I believe that depends on each person.
Anyone find it odd that the current top of the line 14.1" T42p still has a list of $4249, while the top of the line 14.1" T43p will go for around $3800? Of course, you can't get the T43p until April....

I have been following this thread, and it seems that the T43 is just an incremental improvement (not a quantum leap) from the T42. The ExpressCard slot, faster FSB and CPU chipset sound all like good things, while the supposedly lower battery life seems like a small setback.
Also, the graphics card sounds like a nice improvement, unless we are stuck with system graphics on the T43 (vs the T43p).
I guess that for me the biggest question is: Are the little flaws regarding the construction of the T42 going to be gone with the T43, the same as the T23 ironed out some of the problems with the T2x series (stress cracks for example). Some people might consider this a stupid consideration

T42 vs. T43
Having read many posts...I am starting to wonder if it's worth it to wait for the T43. While I'd like to be "future-proofed" as much as possible...do the improvements to the T43 really make it that much better a machine than the T42?
Any help/insights will be appreciated & used in my buying decision.
Thanks.

Where are you finding the models and prices? When I go to the ibm site I only see 2 T43 models, both having intel graphics.
Taurens - it appears that both the T42 and T43 use the exact same chassis. They are both the same thickness.
dr72 - See the document at http://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/5/ ... 05-035.PDF and scroll to the bottom for prices.

I haven't been following this thread and haven't read all 14 pages of posts, so if this has been posted before, I apologize.
Found some additional links on the IBM site today with more T43/p info and thought some of you might be interested.
