The Global Model Plus T43p will have a 4 year CCR/OS Warranty. Not sure about the benefits to the end user really. I think it must be some sort of "buy-back" strategy on IBM's behalf.
Well, I questioned this, from the ThinkPad Brand, and was told - "The 4yr warranty models will be the GMP models only. I haven't received any further details on these as yet and as normal, all announcements are subject to change."

What speed difference would you expect from a new T43 vs. a similar T42 if all other things were equal?
I'm holding off buying a T42 2378fvu because the T43s will be available soon. A T43 2668-4EU seems to fill a similar place in the Work Horse line.
The T43 2668-4EU comes with 14.1” SXGA+, Pentium M processor 750 (1.8GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 cache), Win XP Pro, 40GB 5400rpm, 6-cell Li-Ion, modem, Gigabit, ESS, M22-64MB VRAM Centrino a/b/g, 512MB, Combo, Bluetooth, FPR.
Thanks Cronus71 for sharing the new model specs.
Edit: The Inquirer http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20197
posted an Intel Roadmap showing that the Pentium 750 will have 1.86MHz

Well my 30 day return privilege has come and gone two days ago. I was seriously considering returning my 2379-R9U considering the T43's are just around the corner but this T42 has been such a pleasure to use I decided to keep it. For my needs I doubt the improvements will mean enough to me to give up such a great machine. The display is absolutely beautiful, when I put it up to my new Powerbook it makes the Powerbooks display look fuzzy and dim, thats how clear and bright the 15" flexview display is. Everythings running fast and smooth, all in all a great experience.

IBM won't have regulatory approval for the sale until April 2005. So in the meantime, can rest assured that the T43/T43p will be produced in Q1 as the last of the IBM line...ThinkPadX40 wrote:T43 will be product by Lenovo?

I'd be interested in the next generation X-series as well. Just today IBM Canada unloaded a few top of the line X31s (15) and older T-series stock. Makes me think that something is coming down the pipe, sooner than we may think?
Wonder what's in place for the X-series. The X40 for $999Cdn today was an excellent deal, but I just can't justify purchasing one other than to satisfy my own want. Already have a T42.
My next Thinkpad will be the smaller X-series, I know that much, to compliment the T42 I have now. Just not now.....grrr.

Everything I have read in the news says that ICH6-M and its associated goodies (Azalia audio, etc) are part of the Alviso chipset.
For example: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20344 on December 22nd 2004 reported:
Where did you learn that the T43 won't use ICH6-M?

And I know that HDD makers have had their SATA notebook drives prepped for some time.Sonoma will bring DDR 2, PCI Express marchitecture, S-ATA drives and better audio to Pentium M laptops. It will feature Azalia-like high definition audio.

In addition, there will be no initial support of either SATA or "Azalia" (advanced sound) which will be added when the upcoming ICH6-M is introduced as part of a "T50" refresh in 2H2005.
