CCR = Customer Carry-in Repair

No idea what OS is though. Could be Overseas or Operating System

I see that there are different GA dates depending on the type of graphics card. However, I'm confused. What is the difference between discrete video (GPU) and integrated memory? I assumed that one is "integrated" with the motherboard and the other is a separate video card, but I wasn't sure. Are the higher end ones discrete? Thanks.

AFAIK the discrete GPUs are the ATI Cards (X300/X600) - integrated cards are intel based (e.g. 810 or 855 integrated gfx chipsets)

EDIT: the integrated chipsets use the system RAM and doesn't have own RAM

I've been browsing these forums for a couple weeks now but I finally decided to register so I could post in the T43 thread. This looks like a great notebook and the upgraded GPU sounds interesting, but what really caught my attention was the supposed high-quality audio arriving with ICH6-M (in "T50"?).

Finally, decent sound from a notebook. The next question: what kind of interface would such a unit use? I'm hoping that there would be some sort of optical option but that might be wishful thinking.

It would only be decent sound if you matched the sound system up to decent speakers. Unfortunately, you can almost count on the TP built-in speakers to be craptastic.

I don't think anyone is expecting laptop speakers to sound phenomenal. I guess the real interest here is that when using the laptop in a fixed environment (i.e. on your desk, at home, etc) you could connect to a set of speakers or a stereo. Alternatively, when on the road you could use a good pair of headphones for listening to music or watching a DVD, all with respectable sound quality.

By googling, and translating, "thinkpad t43" you can find news of the upcoming T43. tech.tom.com/1624/1766/2005110-152105.html in part says Intel will oficially announce the T43 on Jan. 16, 2005.

They expect the T43 to ship on March 8. The T43p is expected in April.
Intel in January 16th officially will issue oneself the Alviso chip group product (915PM/915GM) this also will mean the brand-new Sonoma migration overhead construction walked front, the Sonoma overhead construction can the present table model computer newest PCI-E overhead construction, DDR2, SATA and so on the complete belt enter moves inside the platform, yesterday Sony Corporation already in advance announced own based on the Sonoma overhead construction design many patterns notebook product, regarding this we already did the related report, today we again attained some rousing restricted data, believed can even more lose face compared to yesterday content, Because this we see is IBM based on the Sonoma overhead construction design product: Thinkpad T43/T43P.
T43s will have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 or a M22-64MB VRAM (Mobility Radeon X300)

I believe that information is incorrect because the Alviso chipset is supposed to already have the high definition integrated audio.

However, without concrete specifications, its impossible to tell for sure.

OK I'm confused now. There are some people saying that GA for discrete GPU's will be mid-February. Now this guy is says it could be as late as April. Which is it?

Esteban here. I have no inside knowlege.

I Googled "thinkpad t43" . There are a number of Asian web pages describing the IBM Thinkpad T43 with expected release dates and configurations. I read the (translated) information and passed on dates from the source referenced in my above post.

As Google translated:
The IBM plan officially issues oneself the Thinkpad T series new product in January 18th: Thinkpad T43 and Thinkpad T43P, these two section products all will select the Alviso chip group design, will select 533mHz main line standard on the processor new style Pentium M 730/750/760/770, PCI-E will reveal the card main line, the DDR2 memory module as well as the SATA standard 2.5 inches hard disks, will select Sonamo overhead construction design Thinkpad T43 and T43P naturally can create IBM T series performance new high.

Thinkpad T43 and T43P will be able to select PCI-E overhead construction in the graph module M22GL (MOBILITY RADEON X300), M24GL (MOBILITY RADEON X600) the graph module.

At present Thinkpad T43 and T43P officially goes on the market the date does not have the official announcement, but looks from the Japanese aspect news, Thinkpad T43 will start in March 8th to supply goods, but Thinkpad T43P will have only then to be able to supply goods to April.

A small amt of T43 info at IBM's web site

#106 Post by RonS » Thu Jan 13, 2005 5:58 pm

IBM has some T43 info online. If you go to to IBM Parts lookup and enter the model number (say, 2668H5U in the "Quick path" box, model number from page 2 of this thread), A description comes up that lists the 128MB ATI FilreGL V3200 graphics. That chip is discussed here and here.

and if you try some some of the missing model numbers from the info we already have (e.g. 2668-H3U, 2668-G5U), you'll see the ones with IBM wireless cards.

CLICK THE LINK... Sonoma is going to launch on the 19th... now I'm starting to hate my T42 which is only about 3-4 weeks old. I'm getting the upgrade bug already thanks to my geek "mojo".

Interesting, the PC World article mentions that laptops from IBM, Dell, HP and Toshiba would actually begin shipping at time of launch. Aside from IBM, there may not be long lag between the announcement and units being in hand. This would definitely make up for all of the delays!!!

I am anxious to see what Toshiba has to offer with the Satellite series offering a tablet-convertible.

There has been some speculations of the Thinkpad R series receiving a boost, too.

On IBM's europe site there is a mention of the T43
Select new T43 models include the Intel 915GM Express Chipset, providing fast performance, integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, one ExpressCard slot, and one Cardbus Plus slot that runs 2.5 times faster than the PC Card.
Also T40/T41/T42 image compatibility apparently does not carry over to the T43.

Anyone know of any sites that have benchmarks for the new Radeon x600 and Radeon x300 cards that will be in the T43?

Will the T43 have firewire?
I'm leaving for college in september '06, will IBM still be making laptops at that point, or will the t43 be the last t-series made?

keep it -- you'll like it.   for what it's worth, my Q1J (same as Q1U) doesn't seem at all faster than my former R50p and i use autocad, solidworks, illustrator, and photoshop almost all day every day.   to compare my T42p to my R50p, the upgrade is 1.5gb versus 1gb and a 2.1GHz + 2mb cache versus 1.7GHz + 1mb cache processor.   granted, the 533MHz bus might make a difference but the current hardware doesn't fully utilize 400MHz anyway.   food for thought.

the fingerprint reader is pretty cool, too. ;)
