No Sound T42 newby

#1 Post by jeb858 » Fri May 09, 2008 6:54 pm

Hello,
I love my T42 I just bought but for some reason I have no sound, no sound icon, and I can't find a device.
All help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Simple things first: Is it possible the sound is muted? Try to raise the volume using the buttons on the keyboard. (to the left of the power switch)

Boy I wish it was that simple, when I go into audio devices from the control panel it does not see a device, there is nothing to adjust.

Open up Device Manager. Are there any exclamation/question marks next to Sound/Video?

I do not have a exclamation/question mark next to sound video but it doesn't list a specific device name. There is a exclamation/ question mark next to an unknown device that is under other devices.
Confusing enough?

Run this linked utility and post what device has the question mark next to it. Also post the list of all devices found in device manager under sound.

Under Audio I get.....
Audio codecs
Legacy audio drivers
Legacy video capture devices
Media control devices
Video codecs
I do not have a specific name of a audio device under audio.
The unknown device indentifier does not come up with any unknown devices or question marks

I was not talking about adjusting a device. I was talking about buttons on the keyboard.

There is nothing to adjust from the keyboard. It's like there is no audio card in the laptop.

Sounds like you're missing the audio drivers.

Please go to:

Lenovo Driver downloads

and download and install the audio drivers. Hope that helps.

Tried that a couple of times to no avail, laptop said the file already existed but reloaded anyway. I do not have a audio horn on the toolbar and nothing changes by hitting the audio button.

Do you have the audio driver listed in Device Manager?

Download the drivers here:

Audio drivers

Run that, it'll extract the drivers. If it says you already have the files, go ahead and overwrite them.

The drivers have not been installed yet. You still have to do this:

1. Click Start and then click Run.

2. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.

If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then click Next.

3. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.
