T42 . . . Why is this hapening after Rescue and Recovery .

#1 Post by tjnet » Sun May 11, 2008 1:29 pm

Hi everyone,

Sometime ago, I did the Rescue and Recovery before and when restarting, Windows XP started up perfectly.

But I did another Rescue and Recovery with the 8 CDs (boot disk + 7 CDs) but when I restart, as prompted, it takes me back to the IBM Rescue and Recovery screen . . and not Windows. Of course, I removed disk 7 before restarting and the same thing happened again . . . I went back into the R&R menu. I cannot get to Windows.

Is there something I am missing before restarting? Any little details???

Perhaps, something I need to do in BIOS???

It is just that the last time, I did R&R, it was all straight forward.

If there is a link that outlines the beginning to the end, please let me know.

E-mail appreciated!

Thanks,

Tager

Hi: It makes you accept license and go thru dialog before it loads the service partition and again before copying files to your main partition. Why? I don't know. It looks like it is stuck, but it isn't.

Tager,

I suggest you see the thread T42 Windows XP Pro Reinstall - there may be help there!

Thank you all, especially Johan, for providing a link to the thread that cleared up my confusion. It is not obvious after the boot CD and 7 CDs completes the R&R and prompts for the restart. The missing piece to my puzzle before restarting, was to remove the last CD (Disk 7). I would go into R&R again, select restore factory settings again, select yes to the terms and conditions, and the installation would go on for approximately an hour to completion.

At this final point, Windows would come up when restarting the next time around.

I just wanted to detail my experience so that others would know what to do when they R&R. I know this will happen to others in the future . . . and they will know what to do.

Again, thank you for the support!

This forum is awesome!

Sincerely,

Tager
