UltraNav touchpanel as a 'signature' panel

#1 Post by jsteele » Sun Dec 12, 2004 5:28 pm

Does anyone know of a way to use the touchpad for inputting a 'signature' to Word or other WP program.

Its not recommended for that. There are superior, external signature digitizing pads...

IBM utilizes Synaptics touchpads, so you might want to give the Synaptics "Sketch" application a try. I haven't installed this on a ThinkPad yet myself, though (b/c mine don't have the touchpad, only the TrackPoint, but I used this utility on a Compaq successfully and it worked fine). Maybe you are required to install the original Synaptics drivers on your ThinkPad first, but I'm sure you'll find out by yourself.

"Overview" from the help file:

"The Synaptics Sketch/Signature Capture application is a nifty way to add your signature, hand-written text and/or hand-drawn pictures to your documents.

By running this application, you turn your Synaptics TouchPad into a mini sketchpad where you have the freedom to draw and write in different colors and pen styles with just your finger! And your drawings can be easily inserted into documents by just pressing the Return key."

Thanks, I'll take a look at that and report back if I have a chance to actually try it.

i tried it on my computer, didnt work, updated drivers, still didnt work. im unsure of the problem, possibly bad coding. in any event i tried it on a friend's toshiba satellite *cringe* and it worked, but it wasnt that great. you still couldnt use it with a stylus very accurately...something about how the touchpads require heat to operate i believe. in anycase it was a neat little program, but thats about it.
