PC Doctor Showing False Battery Readings?

#1 Post by NorrisCell » Mon May 12, 2008 10:32 pm

It's been a couple months since I tested capacity on my battery and now PC Doctor is returning strange readings. Any ideas?

Results are below:

PC-Doctor 5 for Windows Log File
--------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery [BATT:0\\?\acpi#pnp0c0a#0#{72631e54-78a4-11d0-bcf7-00aa00b7b32a}]*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Battery Name* IBM-92P1013
*Manufacturer Name* SONY
*Type* LION - Lithium Ion
*Designed Capacity Percentage* 100
*Current Charge Percentage* 97
*Current Charge* 147.70 Wh
*Full Charged Capacity* 153.74 Wh
*Designed Capacity* 71.28 Wh
*Voltage* 12.26 V
---
End Results
---

When I tested it a few months back, I believe it was around 95% capacity. I'm going to be getting rid of my T40 and will be selling this battery, but I need to know the correct specs.

What could be causing these results?

Probably confused battery electronics.

What does Thinkpad Configuration Battery Information say? Same thing?

You might try running a reconditioning cycle on the battery to see if it resets the electronics.

Is this a 9 cell? If yes, then "*Designed Capacity* 71.28 Wh " is probably correct. The other readings are way high.
I would believe the following to be more in the neighborhood (drop the leading 1);
Current Charge* 47.70 Wh
Full Charged Capacity* 53.74 Wh

This is indeed a 9 cell. The test ran fine on it a few months back and it was at least 90% capacity. Are there any other programs to test it with besides PC Doc and Thinkpad Configuration?

EDIT - Am I missing something? I can't find any battery info section under Pc Doc. I did try another 3rd party battery program which yielded similar results.

Battery Maximizer is another utility, but I doubt it will say anything different than Thinkpad config.
