I'm leaning towards there actually being more circuitry in the T42 motherboard to do the battery tricks it does.

Assuming that's the question, "Are the extra battery features a bios thing?".

does the t42 use powermanager like my x60?

the power management hardware is different on the T42?

the feature I was looking for that I couldn't figure out how to get on my T41 is battery recalibration which should be purely software. I thought the hardware changed with the T43.

the T41 and T42 aren't bios compatible?

thanks

The BIOS (updates) are the same for the T40/41/42. However, when I updated the BIOS and power management/thinkvantage software for my T40, I didn't get the batter re-conditioning/re-calibration program that is on my T42 (?!)

The only major differences between the T42 and T41 is that the T42 was available with a Dothan CPU, 15" screen and fingerprint reader. If you have a T41 and put a Dothan CPU in, you'll pretty much have a T42.

It's true, T41 and T42 mobos are interchangeable. The only exception are the models with fingerprint reader, those were only avaialble for late model T42's. Of course, these would work in T41, T40 or T43 bodies.

Bottom line, using a T42 model number on a T41 shouldn't change a thing.

Same with me when I updated my T42P and an R50P, the T42P was the only one that came up with the re-conditioning of the battery.

Well that is interesting. Perhaps a few others can comment, does anyone with a T41 have the "Improve Battery Health" button under the "Battery Health" tab of the Battery Information software module?

If not, then either there is a difference between the T41 and T42 motherboards or the BIOS is enabling features for some models or the software is checking against a rather large model number table.

One thing that I noticed that is similar in nature, I have a couple of Intel 2915 a/b/g wifi adapters. When I try them in my R51 (w/ATI video motherboard) I get the 1802 error. When I put them in any T40/T41/T42 they work without a problem. The R51 and T40/T41/T42 use the same BIOS and Embedded Controller images.

I just can't understand how I can get these errors unles there is something in the BIOS or EC preventing my 1836-xxx machine from using those adapters. I suppose I could try to change the model number of the R51 to a T42 to find out.
