Indexing Service cool down HD temperature... ???

#1 Post by apoll0 » Mon Dec 13, 2004 12:06 am

When I first received my TP, the HD was running at about 25-30 degrees under light usage. However, after I reformatted and did a clean install, it's now averaging from 38-42 degrees. I found this a bit too hot and uncomfortable on the palmrest. I've read other posting on this forum and most people said that this is the typical temperature. I however don't think so since I've been running on a cooler HD before. I've been trying to figure out if there are any services that are running that might make the HD to spin continuously.

Anyhow, I remembered that when I first got my TP, the Indexing Service was on by default. So I decided to give it a try. Upon activating the service, there was a CPU usage spike. What I also noticed at the mean time is the HD temperature dropped by 5 degrees... Kinda strange. See for yourself.
