I apologize if I am re-creating a post on the same/similar topic...but I am little frustrated with this problem as I can not get my T42 back to working!!
Problem:
After "factory restore" the system takes me toRescue & Recovery Mode rather than giving me Windows back!
Details:
I am following http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=52133
to factory restore my thinkpad t42 which has Windows XP. I am using the 5 disks(startup + 4 cds) which I created after I bought the machine.
I inserted Startup Disk and then booted the system, now I am in R& R Mode.
From the list of items on my left hand side I selected Factory Restore. It asked if I wanted to backup any data; I chose No as I already backed up my files. Now It popped out the User Agreement and I chose to agree and hit ok.
It started copying some files from the Startup disks and in a bit it rebooted on its own and prompted for "Disk 1" so I put that in and hit Ok. In a bit it asked for Disk 2,3,4 etc.
Since I just have 1-4 disks I chose cancel when I was ask for Disk 5...and then I was asked for a restart so I hit Ok and then it got rebooted(note that there is not disk inserted at this moment) and it took me back to R & R Mode AGAIN! bummer...
Repeated the WHOLE process few times thinking that I might have done something wrong but the same result!
I also try to keep StartUp disk insterted when I was ask to instert disk 5 which basically was a restart point after file copy operation from the previous disks. No luck here as well!!
My suspision:
Maybe because I did not have Disk 5 the restoration process was NOT completed successfully!!??
Looking forward to responses from you guys!
PM or personal email is ok too..
Thanks all,
Jay
