I was wondering if anyone can recommend the best LCD panel for the T40-T42 range, 14.1", XGA.
I want better contrast and a bit higher brightness.
I have an IBM-refurbished T40 with an IDTech panel (based on a parts check using the serial number).
Based on checking the Lenovo site, the other LCD manufacturers for T40-T42 14" XGA screens were LG, Samsung, and CMO.
Are any of these better than IDTech screens? What are the LG and Samsung screens like? I saw a CMO screen and it seemed to be more reflective.
Thanks.
Best LCD Panel For 14" T4x
Thanks for the info.
Just out of curiosity, why did people prefer the IDTech screen over the others?
Re. your question about my T40 screens, since I never had a new T40, its hard for me to tell if my refurb. units' performance is less than when they were new. What kind of slight degradations can go wrong with the screens over time?
What are the SVGA+ screens like in contrast, and brightness, in comparison to the XGA's? I might be willing to switch to an SVGA+ T4x if the SVGA+ screen has significantly better contrast and is at least as bright as the XGA. (although I would want to be able to increase the default text size by changing the dpi setting, or font size settings in Windows).

Screen preferences are very subjective and hard to quantify. I think the bigger, higher-resolution IDTech (flexview) screens are brighter and have a wider viewing angle than the others. I also like Hitachi screens, but as I said, the XGA screens are all very similar. I don't think the contrast and brightness on 14" SXGA+ screens are much better than the XGA. As far as raising text size on SXGA screens, it depends on what applications you use. Some have text sizes that are hard or impossible to adjust.
Over time, the bulbs can lose a little brightness.

You are correct. T42 15" screens in general, not just the Flexviews, are rated as having higher contrast and brightness than the 14" T4x screens. Unfortunately some of the bones in my wrist do not 'like' the longer palmrest on the 15" models, so I prefer to stick with the 14" T4x (or I could move to a 15.4" T61
.
Your info. about font adjustment problems in some apps. is a good reason I should stay with XGA for my T4x's.
