Ok I need experts here.

I own a T42 2373 V2H, 1.8GHZ, 1Go RAM

When I start the computer on AC adapter, my FSB in "SYSTEM Properties" is 597Mhz. When I unplugged, the FSB is missing and I can read only CPU Speed and another indication: 1.79 Ghz....

I don't get it... any suggestions....

Thank you

Try downloading CPU z or NHC if you want exact speeds on and off AC power. I use NHC on some machines and it really works great.

Seems like your speed step isn't working properly.

Oh yeah, it helps to use Subject Titles descriptive to the content of the post, reason.......for the Forum Search Function, it needs all the help it can get.

Wikipedia explains better than I: :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedStep

Speedstep allows the machine to throttle down the processor to save on battery power when you are not on AC. Amongst other things.

Thank you Kyocera

It seems that Plugged or unplugged, CPU Z indicates the same core speed 598Mhz.

Try Notebook Hardware Control. If you go to device manager are there some :!: yellow exclamation points. You may need to update your chipset drivers.

Not real familiar with illegal copies of Windows so I can't comment on that. I have read that the OS goes into a sort of "limp" mode if you can't register it after a certain period of time. But as far as all the ramifications thereof I don't know.

Ok thanks

I have no exclamation points in device manager.

I don't understand, CPU seems Ok, this is realy weird

I should wait for others possibilities, I have only intermediate experience in computers laptop.

Thanks again

Try doing some CPU-intensive tasks while you have CPU-Z open and see if the core speed changes. It should automatically clock down when you're not doing anything, but when you start making it work harder it should speed back up if everything is working properly. If you think SpeedStep might be the issue, then you can disable it in BIOS setup.

Thank you fuscob.

Yes yes the core speed is actually changing each time that i occure a action. Would it mean that everything is all right, i hope so?

FSB is very unstable... right now, plugged or unplugged, FSB stays at 598 Mhz In "System properties"

Could it be a simple display error in "System properties", internal, with no consequences....

Sincerely

Could be the settings in the BIOS.

You can choose there if you want full power on battery, or that the laptop should run in "Max. battery".

same kind of setting for AC mode.

Look in the BIOS :D
