Access to 9 pin com???

#1 Post by MJC » Tue Dec 14, 2004 10:18 pm

I need to access to a 9 pin com port. I have tried using a DB25 to DB9 adapter, but that has not worked. This is the only connection possible (no USB). Any idea why the adapter would not work? I understand the 25 pin parallel port in the back of the T42 is identified as COM1, correct?

Thanks for the help.

No, com port is connected to docking connector, and you can use 9 pin com port in port replicator or docking station.

Parallel port is LPT1. The easiest way to get a working serial port may be to spend $10 on a USB-to-Serial adapter.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

will this solution work for the Console (serial) cable for my NetScreen firewall for configuration purposes?

Sorry, I have no idea since I've never used one myself. I wouldn't have too much faith in the USB2COM drivers for such a specialized application, but it's cheap enough where it would probably be worth trying :) I know that's not a very useful response, sorry.

I believe COM1 is the infrared ports per default. And try the USB-serial adapter, you never know which model works with your devices. It's a long, sad story.

Thanks everybody, I will try the UBS-Serial. The port replicator is not worh it at this point (cost wise).
