T42 Restore Problems

#1 Post by tmfast » Wed May 28, 2008 8:51 pm

Hi all,
I am having problems trying to restore a T42. I created recovery disks when I got it.
I want to restore it back to factory. Now everyt time the machine boots. I get a system prep 2.0 program running. How can I kill it? Also, I can't convert the fs to NTFS??
Did I do a bad restore. the 1st, and 2nd did not go right, so I low level formated HD for a fresh start. These are the problems I am having now.

Any T42 experts out there?

System prep will always run when you recover. That is the normal way the security descriptors are made unique for your machine. When it is done, the conversion to NTFS will happen automatically. How is it failing?

I am sorry to say that I find your explanation is a bit confusing, so kindly clarify:

1) Did the actual restore process (using the IBM Rescue & recovery CD-ROM media) eventually succeed? [If not, you might want to see the hints in the thread T42 - Why is this hapening after Rescue and Recovery).

2) Is the error, you refer to above, occur when the t42 is about to boot into Win XP?

3) I assume you used the correct CD-ROM's (i.e. those intended for/supporting your particular T42-model).

PS: Did you see the threads sysprep window appears everytime I start Windows XP and Sysprep runs every boot, how can I stop it? discussing similar problems?

Thanks for your replies.
i will try some of the things on johan's links.
Note: at the very end of the install, the TP blue screened and restarted very quick. Boots up OK, but sysrep keeps poppin up after I restart no matter what I set it to.

johan,
I read all your links. set up my system as your links suggested. Did a new system restore. All went very well. The whole task went perfectly, no problems at all. I am 100% back in business with no errors. All OK,
I feel like I owe you some compensation. Your advise has been more helpfull.

Once again,
Thank you,

tmfast,
