Keyboard issue

#1 Post by longfellow6-6 » Thu May 29, 2008 8:22 am

Greetings all,

I am ready to do the GPU repair that others here have explained so well. (Please see my post on where to get a $20 IR thermometer).

I have a problem with four keys - the U,I,O,P keys do not work.
The keyboard is kind of dirty so I am planing on cleaning it.
I am assuming that dirt may be the cause.
I'm not sure if that is a valid assumption or not

My question is whether these non functioning keys are repairable or if I just need to replace the keyboard.

Thanks for all the input and what has become an enjoyable learning experience and hobby.

This may not help much, but the answer is "maybe". I take them apart if they don't work and sometimes there is junk inside and sometimes the film is bad. It is free to try, but be careful when you take it apart. The plastic pieces under the key cap come apart easily and are a pain to assemble if you haven't done it before.

If any one could point me some posts on how to clean the keys that would be great. I got 11k hits on my search -- so far none that address what I am looking for.

The plan is to start the GPU repair in the near term so the keyboard fix is right behind that.

Thanks to all!!

Hi,
You can get a new keyboard really cheap on Ebay. I got one for about $20. If you shop around, you may be able to get it cheaper.
