LCD problem on 2373N3U

#1 Post by borodark » Thu May 29, 2008 1:54 pm

I have strange issue with my T42. It is T42 (2373N3U): ATI Radeon 9600, 15" SXGA (1400x1050) screen.

While ago the LCD stop working. It shows black screen while back light is working: turns off on suspend and brightness can be controlled with Fn <home><end> or whatever buttons.
The computer still works fine with external monitor.
I have decided it is LCD problem and accrued UXGA FlexView from T42P with a purpose of fixing by upgrade ;-)
BUT to my huge disappointment the new panel shows the same symptoms: no image but working back light. (I have probably threw out to garbage working SXGA+ panel then
Is it a motherboard problem?
I have completely cleaned MB and everything else of dust and lint but it did not help ...

You need a different cable to work with you UXGA LCD.

Get the cable and hopefully it should work.

Sorry I missunderstood I thought you only had the panel and not the entire assembly.

It could be the motherboard then. I would doubt both inverters were bad.

When the LCD goes all bright, it is actually off and the backlight shows thru. When the panel goes back with the backlight still visible around the edge, all pixels are on.

So in your case the LCD likely lost power.

I believe they are all black and the backlight is seen on the edges.
As you described in the second sentence.

Then it is likely a MB/GPU issue. The GPU has quite a few ports, LVDS to the LCD, analog VGA, and a DVI thru the dock port. Older MB has external LVDS drivers but the T4x GPUs probably has internal LVDS drivers. Since the panel did turn on, it would not be a fuse issue.
