What are the 100Gb (or >) HDD options for a T41

#1 Post by XCoalMiner » Fri Jun 06, 2008 10:48 am

Now that 7200 rpm Hitachi 100 Gb PATA drives are nowhere to be found (see this thread), what are the options for 100Gb or > HD in a T41?

I see a few:
1. Hitachi TravelStar 5400 rpm 100 Gb PATA drives still available.
2. Third party PATA drives. Have seem a few mentioned here.
2. The SATA to PATA bridge I've read about, use with Hitachi TravelStar 100 to 200 Gb SATA drives. Not clear this bridge is used for an UltraBay 2nd HD Adapter, or can be used in the main HDD slot. Or that it even is usable on a T41?

Ideas?

At 5400 RPM - there are several. WD has 160GB and 250GB drives. Hitachi, Samsung, and Seagate have 120GB and 160GB drives. Fujitsu has some 4200RPM drives as well.

Look at any on-line retailer, Newegg, for example.

Am aware of those sources, thanks.

What I am hoping for is someone knows of some 7200 rpm drives, available somewhere in the US.

You'll see new Seagates and Hitachis on eBay, 7200rpm, be prepared to be skinned alive.

I'm in need of a couple of 7200rpm drives myself, but refuse to pay the prices that I've been seeing lately.

Good luck.

Are you going to wait and hope the prices will come down, ... because they will be a greater supply of them?, because Hitachi or others will increase production?

Nope. The prices will not go down, ever. I'm going to learn to live with 5400rpm at least in my A31p...although the Seagate which is in it has quite a bit of warranty left, so I just might get lucky during that timeframe...

PATA drives in 7200rpm format are history...
