Does having a 2010 hdd error msg limit R+R actions
Does having a 2010 hdd error msg limit R+R actions
I have just changed my HDD in my T43 for a Travel star IC25N040ATCS05-0, I believe it needs a firmware upgrade to stop 2010 error msg which I have not been able to do, another story, so I thought adjust the bios to continue through error msg and no worries bussiness as usual.
I have a set of recovery disc, so a full reset of HDD with a recover partition is the required action, except the machine wont allow me to do it, it just want to load windows from set up disc 1, I dont get prompted to add discs 1-6. The result is a messy windows XP instalation with nearly all the drivers missing.
I have tried a cople of times with the same result, is my problem tied to the 2010 error msg or am I missing something fundermental ?? I am starting from a clean formatted disc.
Any help will be gratefully recieved
Regards
Graeme

Thank you both for your replies.
Steve you have made me see the wood from the trees, the 40gb hdd is from a T42 and I have formatted the partition I could see I have overlooked the fact that it has a recover partition on it already from its orginal life. The penny has dropped, Thank you
I will report back as my repair projects come together.
The T43p's are next on the agenda now that I have bought some parts from Ebay so I dont have to keep moving, HDD's, batteriers and memory around. I hope to get 4 of the 5 done quite quickley, the 5th has a smashed screen and finding a cheap svga screen is proving to be a challenge.

I thought I had cracked it, taking Steve’s advice I formatted both partitions then removed said partitions, and the 40GB HDD capacity went from 34GB to 37GB. Drive fitted to T43p and a full recovery took place using all 7 discs of the recovery set.
The next HDD only had one partition and a capacity of 34GB, I repeated the process but recovery only used the first set up disc and ran recovery version 5.8 with the result described in an earlier post, odd things of interest are XP is sp1 and NAV is 2004 when previously it had been XP and NAV 2003 .
Convinced that there is an unseen previous recovery partition on this drive I ran the HDD through Fdisk on my T30 fdd and found nothing different to what I had seen on control panel/computer management/storage/local drives when using a usb case for the HDD on the T43p and when I tried a recovery I got the single disc 5.8 recovery again.
How do I clean a HDD and get its capacity back to nearer 40 GB when I cant see what to remove??? Are there any tools / magic bullets that are in the systems that I can use???
Again as usual any help would be appreciated as what I though would be a simple exercise of using s/h ex T4* series HDD as a cheap way of getting out to sourcing T43 compatible drives is turning into a nightmare as I have 4 of these HDD’s all showing 34gb capacity and not showing any hidden recovery partitions.
All these drives are ptno: IC25N040ATCS05-0 / FRU 92P6342 5400/40GB and have been flashed for the latest firmware to stop 2010 errors.
