Hard drive not recognized in ultra bay caddy on my 2877 Dock

#1 Post by muffd » Sun Jun 22, 2008 12:39 pm

Hi
I put my 120gb drive in this caddy I bought into the docking station thinking it would be recognized like any other external or internal hard drive. It's not detected no matter with the OS or even when I boot to the BIOS. I know the hard drive is working but for some reason it's not working in the caddy. Do I need to do anything special to get this thing to work?

Thanks

I don't remember how that dock's slot is configured. Your primary hard drive is the master on the primary IDE channel and your optical drive is the master on the secondary IDE channel. It is possible that the slot in the dock is the slave on the primary channel. You may have to add a jumper on the HD,.

I just want to update that I figured out how the jumpers are supposed to be fixed but on the caddy I'm using..when I put the jumper on, I am unable to fit the hard drive all the way in.

Stumped..

I had a similar problem where my A21 would not recognise the HDD in the dock, but my T41 and A31 do in another dock. I've never had to use jumpers on the HDD. In my case I suspect one dock may have a problem.

With your dock - does it recognise the CD ROM ?

Hi
Are you saying I should remove the cd-rom in my laptop and put it in the dock?

I was asking if the dock recognised your CD ROM ? If it doesn't then you can say the dock has a problem. If it does then the problem may be with the HDD caddy.

Hi
I tried to fit my cd-rw/dvd into the slot on the side of my docking station and it does not appear to fit.

I called IBM and told them about my problem. They actually sent me the ultrabay slim caddy for the hard drive. This item works fine. It's not what I wanted though. I wanted to be able to have this hard drive working when it's in the docking station.

What do you think? Should I call them again and tell them I got the wrong part? I actually like this too but want the option of having it work in my docking station as well.
