Some time ago, the motherboard on my T42 kicked the bucket due to an extreme distaste for excess amounts of club soda. I sent it to IBM, who said that they wouldn't repair it, and told me that I was on my own to replace it. So I went out and bought a T42p motherboard instead, to replace my vanilla run-of-the-mill MB. It was a new part from ebay.
Since then, I have made many warranty claims for various parts, mostly cosmetic, so clearly they haven't officially voided out my warranty which is supposedly good until 2009.
Now I think I have a hardware issue with this motherboard (I believe it might have to do with a dying long fan which I recently replaced.) It's hard crashing at random times, just freezing up, sometimes showing me a pretty pattern of black and white vertical stripes.
Has anyone dealt with the warranty system with a heavily upgraded and modified computer? I seem to recall that the repair people like to make FireGL motherboards disappear and replace them with what the serial number on the computer calls for. In my case, will they fix my computer?

I don't believe they would be replacing or repairing the motherboard and fan you installed however if it's the original fan they may replace it (the fan).oldsguy wrote:snip.......Now I think I have a hardware issue with this motherboard (I believe it might have to do with a dying long fan which I recently replaced.).....snip

You're on your own with the motherboard. You might be able to get them to replace fan but it's not a CRU so you'll have to send the computer to Solectron. Could also be the T4x ATI "Graphics Chip" death
