wanting to upgrade t41 40gig 4400rpm harddrive
wanting to upgrade t41 40gig 4400rpm harddrive
any suggestions on where to buy a new harddrive for my t41? Is it a standard 1.8" hard drive? I can't seem to find any obivous places that advertise the updated hard drive for this. Also, is there a 5400rpm or faster drive available for this system?
THanks,

There are lots of choices, but yours is the standard 2.5" PATA type.
For PATA notebook drives, there are basically 3 spindle speeds: *4200rpm (which is probably what you have), 5400rpm or 7200rpm (which are increasingly difficult to find).
*Capacities go from really small up to in excess of 200gb.
The realities in todays world is that 7200rpm, 80Gb+, PATA drives are very difficult if not impossible to find in "new" form. However, the 5400rpm drives are almost universal and can be had most anywhere in very large capacities (up to 250-300Gb). Many of the forum members here purchase them from Newegg or ZipZoomFly. If you insist on the 7200rpm speed, then the 60Gb size are fairly common on the used market, but the 80-100Gb size are very difficult to find.
Hopefully that helps. Oh, there's a great sticky by AlphaKilo470 in the "600" conference that does a great job explaining upgrading HDDs.

just went to fry's, bought a PATA 2.5" drive
Fujitsu MHV2080AH ata-7, and it's the wrong size. same form factor as all my other 2.5" drives. What am I missing? What is the best way for me to refer to the drive which has the smaller form factor of my t41.
thanks
thanks
Re: just went to fry's, bought a PATA 2.5" drive
It looks like that the Fujitsu drive you have should be fine. Not only is it the correct size and interface (PATA), but it was a higher performance design ("MHV" vs. "MHT") of their line at the time. By the way, it's listed as a ATA-6. You can read a very good review of it on Digitaldingus website.pkellner wrote:Fujitsu MHV2080AH ata-7, and it's the wrong size. same form factor as all my other 2.5" drives. What am I missing? For what it's worth; my brother who works in the industry thinks that the Fujitsus may very well be the most reliable notebook drives out there right now. I've never had any problems with them (unlike the Toshibas), but personally, I tend to stick with Hitachi/IBMs.
There are basically 2 form-factors in notebook drives right now: the typical 2.5" (yours needs to be the 9.5mm or less in thickness) and the 1.8" drive that some of the X Series uses.
